March 22, 2009 is the seventeenth World Water Day and March 22-28 is the twentyth
Chinese Water Week. Presently, various activities have already reminded citizens
awareness for water resources protedtion all through the world .
The theme of World Water Day in 2009 is confirmed by the UN as"transboundary water-
-- water sharing,sharing opportunity" . We are closely connected with water areas of
transnational boundaries. Water resoures are an indispensable part to every country and
person.
On the eve of the seventeenth World Water Day, March 22, UNESCO issued Water
Resources Development Report at the UN headquarters New York said that sharply
increased world population, changed global climate and gradually increased requirements
of energy sources from all countries make global water resource supply gradually
intensified.
In the past 50 years,the demand of fresh water is 3 times of the past which is closely
connected with population increase. It forecasts that 47% global population will live in high
water-stung areas unto 2030. the shortage of water resources in arid and semi-arid areas
will greatly effect population flowage. And there will be 24million ¨C0.7billion people left
their native place for water shortage. Now, the demand of water resources is greater than
before and will continously increase.
Climate change deeply effect water resources. Unto 2020,75million to 0.25billion African
people will face increased high water use pressure in global warming condition.
Presently, the water use in some countries has already been in the terminal. The
dispute for water resources appears¨Cnomatter in countries,urbans and rurals as well as
different industries,and this will lead to political problem in the future.
Water Resources Development Report stated every three years for evaluating global
fresh water resource. This report appeared on the eve of the seventeenth World Water
Day,March 22. |
